Unit standards - package of three literacy unit standards (total of 10 credits - all three required).
These standards have been designed to be used in schools, tertiary and workplace programmes and support the principle of embedded literacy and numeracy. The standards have been designed using the following definitions: Literacy is the written and oral language people use in their everyday life and work. It includes reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Skills in this area are essential for good communication, active participation, critical thinking and problem solving.
The NZQA website is a nightmare to navigate and many of the links are inactive so below are the essential links you will need.
US26622 - Write to communicate ideas for a purpose and audience
Essentially, we need to be looking for evidence that our students have achieved each of the standards. Students, too, can and should be encouraged to identify and select pieces of work that they believe is evidence of their meeting the assessment requirements. WHAT TO DO WHEN A PIECE OF WORK IS SELECTED AS EVIDENCE OF A LUS OR AN ASPECT OF IT?
1. Photocopy it, if the original cannot be put in the portfolio
2. Complete the relevant Evidence Collection Sheet or Observation sheet (below)
The Literacy Coordinator will moderate a random selection of collected evidence. A separate random selection of evidence will also be sent for National Moderation. In Term 3, each student will select the 3 best pieces of evidence for each LUS. The Literacy Coordinator will then complete Assessed Work Cover Sheets. Digital Evidence If you have collected Audio/Visual digital evidence of student work (e.g. for 26625 - Actively participate in spoken interactions), the learner whose performance is being assessed must be clearly identified. It is a good idea to have students wear name badges if you are recording a group interaction. If only part of a learner’s submitted evidence is relevant to the standard being assessed, then the relevant evidence should be clearly flagged for ease of identification. For example, you could indicate the running-time at which the evidence begins. Use the Moderation Visual/Digital evidence cover sheet, below, when submitting digital evidence for moderation.
